Japan survival guide
Before you fly ✈️
- Complete the Japan customs / immigration information ahead of time through Visit Japan Web and screenshot the QR code.
- Fly into Haneda if possible — it is closer, although both Tokyo airports work.
- Get an eSIM about 2 days before the trip. Suggested options include Saily and Ubigi.
- Ryokans and onsens can sell out fast, especially around Hakone and Kawaguchiko.
- Consider an International Driving Permit from AAA — about $20 per person.
